Things to Know Before Staging Your House

When you’re selling your house, you need to make it look good enough that people will want to buy it. There are many things you can do to make your home ready to go onto the market and feel like a welcoming place that people will want to live in. Here are some things to know that can help you on your journey to selling your house.

One of the first things you should think about when getting your house ready for the market is curb appeal. Would someone look at the front of your house and want to live there? You want to make sure you’re doing all you can to make even the slightest of changes like changing out the old mailbox or the numbers on the front of the house, paint the front door, and even put a plant on the front porch.

Make sure there is no clutter in the house. Potential buyers will have a hard time envisioning their furniture and decor in the home if it’s full of clutter. You can take all of the knick-knacks off the mantle and out of the kitchen and make sure everything is pretty minimal.

Maximize your space by placing the furniture in a way that fits the room and makes it feel larger. Every house and every room is different, so the furniture placement is going to be different as well. Don’t be afraid to try a few different placements before settling on the placement that feels right for your home, and maybe even add a mirror.

You also need to get rid of all of the personal things in the house. It’s hard to envision yourself living in a space that’s full of pictures of someone else’s family and has children’s artwork on the fridge. Use more generic artwork for decoration instead of photographs so potential buyers can feel like that home could be theirs.

Make sure you clean the house before showing it to potential buyers. Nobody will want to buy a house if they see stains on the carpet and walls when they walk in. This also shows that the house has been taken care of, which potential buyers will appreciate.
Add some plants to the house to make it feel fresh, and make sure the plants are not dying. A dying plant may make it seem as though you aren’t taking care of your house.

Light a few candles to make the house smell good and feel welcoming. You can also use essential oils in a diffuser to make the house smell good as well. This will make people feel good in the house. Make sure not to overdo it, though! Don’t light candles of all different scents, and don’t use super strong scents that people may not like.

Open the curtains and blinds to let in all of the natural light. Natural light makes people happier, and it also makes rooms feel brighter and more open. And you can even open the windows a little to let in some fresh air as well.
Using this information, you’re going to have a much easier time selling your home and you’re going to sell it in no time! These will have people excited to check out your house.
